Many of us experience the Holy Spirit at work in our lives when we spend time at the Claggett Center. God is indeed active and present to us as we come away for awhile with open-hearted intention.
It is with this same open-hearted intention that the Co-Executive Directors of the Claggett Center, James and Lisa Marie Ryder, and I share with you that the Rev. Spencer Hatcher, Director of Summer Programs, has accepted a new position that will require her to relocate to Berkeley, CA. Effective September 1
, Spencer will serve as the Director of Diocesan Relationships and Recruitment at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific. While her call is rooted in the soil and stirred by the air of Claggett, we proudly wish her well and send her forth to continue to shape leaders in the Church.
Since joining camp staff in 2003, Spencer has led many of us into a more open-hearted and intentional relationship with God and with one another through her abiding commitment to camping ministry in the Diocese of Maryland. She has crafted curricula, adventures, and liturgies that draw us into an experience of God who is always making beautiful things out of us. Spencer has radiated compassion, inclusion, grace, wisdom, and joy. Her leadership of and dedication to the formation of Jesus disciples has strengthened the Claggett Center and also the faith lives of our children, families, congregations, and Diocese.
I have been privileged to work alongside Spencer at summer camp, and know well that she will be greatly missed for her caring presence and incredible organizational gifts. Even so, as we share this news with young campers especially, we remember to open our hearts to how the Holy Spirit is calling her into new adventures, and pray for wisdom as we seek new leadership for summer programs at Claggett. Lisa Marie and James, along with Board support, will begin a search process for a new director of summer programs in the fall.
With an open heart,
The Rev. Dina van Klaveren, Chair
