SPECIAL CHALLENGE CAMP

What to Expect

Claggett’s Special Challenge Camp offers a welcoming and inclusive summer retreat for adults with intellectual disabilities. Our 268-acre property overlooking Sugarloaf Mountain provides space for rest, exploration, and connection in a peaceful natural setting. Shared air-conditioned lodging, hearty home-cooked meals, and a wide variety of camp activities make this program truly special.

Campers enjoy:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Swimming, fishing, and canoeing
  • Nature hikes and time outdoors
  • Daily chapel and spiritual programming
  • Beadwork and woodworking
  • Campfire nights and skits
  • Talent show and the annual Dinner-Dance with a live DJ

Care for Campers

Staffed by a combination of dedicated volunteers and Claggett summer counselors, this program offers group supervision, creating a safe and structured environment while honoring camper independence. While one-on-one care is not provided, the team works closely with all participants to ensure a fulfilling and safe experience for everyone.

If you’re considering Special Challenge Camp for the first time and are unsure about registering for the full week, we invite you to contact the Claggett Center to schedule a visit.

Pricing

Claggett uses a tiered pricing model to ensure all who wish to attend camp can do so, while also inviting those who are able to support our broader ministry.

Special Challenge Camp Pricing for 2025:

  • Subsidized Rate: $500 – Supported by donors and Claggett’s operating fund
  • True Cost Rate: $700 – Reflects the full cost of staffing, lodging, programming, meals, insurance, and utilities

Each tier offers the full Claggett experience—there is no difference in programming or care based on the tier selected.

A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required to hold a space. Scholarships are available; please contact Sara Yoe for more information.
