Claggett Center’s summer camp programs thrive thanks to the dedication of staff and volunteers who build safe, joyful, Christ-centered communities for campers of all ages and abilities. Whether you’re looking for a full-summer leadership role, a week-long service opportunity, or behind-the-scenes support work, there’s a place for you on our team.

EMPLOYMENT POSITIONS AND APPLICATION

Assistant Summer Camp Director

Seasonal Residential Role | June 3–August 2, 2025

The Assistant Director supports the Camp Director in day-to-day leadership of summer operations. This includes:

  • Creating daily camp schedules and staff assignments
  • Managing supplies and activity prep
  • Supervising and supporting counselor staff
  • Overseeing camper groupings and session planning
  • Serving on the camp leadership team

Compensation: $600/week, room and board included

Senior Counselor

Full-Season Leadership Role | Ages 18+ (1 year post-high school)

Senior Counselors are the core leadership of the camp community. They:

  • Plan and lead activities for youth in grades 2–12
  • Build relationships with campers and staff
  • Specialize in program areas like music, arts & crafts, adventure, or lifeguarding

Availability: Must attend training (June 4–13) and serve for all summer weeks. One week off may be requested.

Compensation: Starts at $375/week + bonuses for returning staff and leadership roles; room and board included

Assistant Counselor

Partial-Season Leadership Role | Ages 18+

Assistant Counselors support Senior Counselors for 1–2 peak sessions. Ideal for returning staff or those unable to commit full-season.

Session Options: July 6–11, July 13–18, July 27–31

Training Required: June 4–13 or scheduled alternative

Compensation: $300/week, room and board included

Junior Counselor (Volunteer Role)

One-Week Service Role | Grades 10–12 or graduated seniors

Junior Counselors assist with camp activities while learning leadership skills through mentorship and service.

Eligibility:

  • Must have completed 9th grade and be two grade levels above the campers they serve
  • Attend staff training and Senior High Camp

Compensation:

  • Under 18: Volunteer (room and board included)
  • Graduated seniors (18+): $150/week honorarium
  • Equity Grants available

Summer Support Staff

Behind-the-Scenes Role | Ages 18+

Support Staff assist kitchen, maintenance, and grounds operations. Ideal for individuals who want to be part of the camp community but prefer not to work directly with campers.

Responsibilities:

  • Daytime work with operations teams
  • Evening participation in community events (campfire, worship, etc.)

Compensation: $250/week, room and board included

Adult Volunteers (Youth Camps)

One-Week Volunteer Role | Ages 21+

Adult volunteers enrich the camp experience by offering presence, leadership, or skill-sharing. Volunteers work alongside staff in programming and supervision.

Apply online. Placement and roles determined through interview process.

Special Challenge Camp Volunteer

One-Week Volunteer Role | All Ages

  • Volunteers help create a joyful and supportive environment for adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Assist with meals, worship, and activities
  • Help facilitate community life and camper support

Youth Volunteers:

  • Under 14: must be accompanied by a parent/guardian
  • High schoolers participate via Junior Counselor Program
  • Service hours can be verified

Adult Volunteers (Youth Camps)

One-Week Volunteer Role | Ages 21+

Camp Nurse

Part-Time Residential Role | Licensed RN or LPN

The Camp Nurse provides health care support on-site, dispensing medications, maintaining records, and responding to medical needs. Ideal for school nurses or retirees.

Compensation: Includes private housing and discounted camp registration for dependents

Camp Chaplain

Spiritual Leadership Role | Clergy or trained lay leaders

Chaplains lead daily chapel and faith formation activities and provide pastoral care to campers and staff. Typically work in teams and coordinate with the Camp Director.

Compensation Summary

  • Assistant Director: $600/week
  • Senior Counselors: $375/week (bonuses for experience and leadership)
  • Assistant Counselors: $300/week
  • Support Staff: $250/week
  • Junior Counselors: Volunteer or $150/week if graduated
  • Lifeguard stipend: +$150/week

Summer Staff Equity Grant

Claggett is committed to building a diverse and inclusive staff. Equity Grants are available to reduce barriers for counselors from historically underrepresented backgrounds (e.g., BIPOC, LGBTQ+, low-income).

Award Amounts:

  • Senior Counselors: Up to $1,000 per summer
  • Junior Counselors & Volunteers: Up to $200 per week served

Application Process:

  1. Complete summer staff application and interview
  2. Submit equity grant application (can be submitted with or after staff application)
  3. Receive grant award and respond to offer
  4. Grants are awarded as funds allow. Early applications are encouraged.
