Booking & Reservations

Claggett Center offers various group lodging options in Maryland, providing comfortable accommodations for everything from intimate spiritual retreats to large organizational gatherings.

Whether you’re planning a faith-based retreat, youth program, corporate event, or family reunion, we have the right sleeping arrangements to make your stay restful and restorative.

Do you have to be a religious organization to have retreats at Claggett?

No. Claggett welcomes both secular and faith-based nonprofit organizations, as well as schools, community groups, and professional organizations.

How do I reserve space for a retreat at Claggett?

To reserve space, contact our Guest Services team or submit a request through our website. We’ll work with you to find the best accommodations and pricing for your group.

Is a deposit required to secure our reservation?

Yes, a signed contract and a 25% deposit are required to confirm your reservation. Final details and payment are typically due three weeks before your arrival.

What are check-in and check-out times?

  • Lodging check-in: 4:00 PM
  • Lodging check-out: 10:00 AM
  • Meeting space access: 1:00 PM (unless otherwise arranged)

Can I visit Claggett Center before booking?

Yes, we encourage you to schedule a tour to view our facilities and explore the grounds before making a reservation.

Do you host weddings or other special events?

Yes! We host weddings, rehearsal weekends, and special events in our historic barn, chapels, and on the scenic grounds. Learn more about Weddings at Claggett here.

What is the closest airport or train station to Claggett Center?

The closest major airport to the Claggett Center is Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), located about one hour away by car. BWI offers a wide range of domestic and international flights and is easily accessible via I-70 and I-270.

For those traveling by train, the nearest Amtrak and MARC Train stations are:

  • Frederick MARC Station – approx. 20 minutes away
  • Brunswick MARC Station – approx. 25 minutes away
  • Amtrak at BWI Airport – approx. 1 hour away

Transportation to and from the airport or train station is not provided by Claggett, but we are happy to recommend local shuttle services or coordinate arrival times for groups using charter transportation.

Lodging & Accommodations

Does Claggett host retreats for individuals?

Claggett does not currently offer private individual retreats. However, some of our Adult Programs are ideal for personal spiritual renewal. Check our program calendar for upcoming events.

Is the facility ADA-accessible?

Yes. Most of our lodging, dining, and meeting areas are ADA-compliant. If a member of your group requires additional accommodations, please contact us in advance.

Do you provide linens and towels?

Yes, linens and towels are provided in all accommodations except Powell Hall. Guests staying in Powell Hall may request linens for an additional fee.

Are pets allowed at Claggett?

Pets are not permitted on campus, with the exception of certified service animals.

Is Wi-Fi available on campus?

Yes, complimentary Wi-Fi is available in all lodging, meeting, and dining spaces.

Meals & Dining

Are meals included in overnight retreat packages?

Yes. All overnight packages include three meals per day served in one of our dining halls. Day-use groups may add meals for an additional fee.

Can I cook my own meals while at Claggett?

No. Food service is provided by Claggett’s kitchen staff. Lodging and meeting spaces are not equipped for group meal preparation.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

We strive to accommodate dietary restrictions when notified in advance. Each meal includes an option that is vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegan. Food allergies are taken seriously—if we’re unable to meet a need through the main meal, our kitchen staff will prepare a separate, custom dish. Please provide dietary needs at least two weeks in advance.

Can we order pizza or have food delivered for our group?

No. Outside prepared food, including delivered meals like pizza, is not permitted on campus. Groups may bring pre-packaged snacks, but all other food must be provided by our dining services.

Activities & Campus Amenities

What recreational activities are available?

Guests enjoy access to hiking trails, a seasonal outdoor pool, a basketball court, a ball field, open green spaces, and a ropes course (by prior arrangement with Upward Enterprises).

Is there a daily schedule of activities?

Claggett does not offer a fixed schedule, but our staff can assist group leaders with scheduling questions and equipment access.

What spaces are available for worship and reflection?

Claggett offers a variety of sacred and quiet spaces, including:

  • St. Andrew’s Chapel (seats up to 10)
  • Thomas Becket Chapel (converted grain silo, seats 22)
  • Outdoor altar with Sugarloaf views
  • Outdoor labyrinth for walking meditation
  • Hasselbach Family Cemetery & slave gravesite for historical reflection

Is alcohol allowed at Claggett Center?

Yes, alcohol is permitted in designated areas and must be served in compliance with Maryland law. Alcohol may not be sold on-site.
